ACLU of Kentucky 70th Anniversary Celebration

Since 1955, the ACLU of Kentucky, first known as the Kentucky Civil Liberties Union, has been a leading institution in the fight to defend civil liberties and expand our civil rights. To mark our 70th anniversary, we will gather with our community of supporters, volunteers, staff, board, and members from across the commonwealth for a night of celebration and solidarity at The Speed Art Museum on November 1, 2025.

Registration will open in the coming weeks.

Sponsor the Celebration!

Any sponsorship over $500 will be listed on invite and other event materials. All sponsors submitted by 5PM ET, Thursday, August 28, will be listed on this webpage and at the event, unless we are instructed otherwise.

Our work over the last 70 years in communities across Kentucky has evolved and transformed our organization. Today we are the strongest we’ve ever been, thanks to supporters like you, 13 full-time staff members, over 5,000 union members statewide, and 3,725 volunteers, working together to uphold the rule of law and safeguard our most precious freedoms.  We’re working to raise $200,000 at the November event to keep up the momentum at this crucial moment. A generous Kentucky family has donated $50,000 in matching funds, so donations up to $5,000 will have twice the impact!

Fighting Back, Fighting Forward

The theme for this anniversary, “Fighting Back, Fighting Forward,” describes the ways we are showing up in this critical moment. The ACLU of Kentucky has filed litigation against the Trump administration for book and curriculum bans at Department of Defense schools on military bases. We have joined a coalition of dedicated organizations to respond to the attacks against immigrants in Kentucky and distributed thousands of “Know Your Rights” materials across the state. To move the fight forward, we’ve launched a comprehensive strategic plan focused on safeguarding democracy, challenging systems of oppression, and supporting and developing leaders from impacted communities. In these ways, we are contributing to the fights happening today, while building sustainable power for the future.
