On days with freezing temperatures, Louisville Metro Government proceeded to sweep houseless encampments, despite White Flag warnings.

White Flag warnings indicate Louisville Metro is undergoing a severe weather emergency, or extreme cold or heat. During a wind chill of below 35 degrees or a heat index over 95 degrees, participating shelters will fly a white flag.

Last week, despite a White Flag warning, freezing temperatures, and no guaranteed shelter beds in the city of Louisville, Metro Government proceeded with houseless encampment sweeps.

These encampment sweeps are unconstitutional prohibitions on necessary, life-sustaining conduct essential to survival, so we wrote a letter to Metro Government demanding they cancel any furture plans to sweep during White Flag warnings.

After receiving our letter, Metro Government halted additional plans for further sweeps.
