House Bill 336 did not make it out of committee this year, but we do expect similar bills attacking LGBTQ equality to return and move forward in the future. HB336 would prevent healthcare providers from providing trans-affirming healthcare to Kentucky children.
Decisions about a child's healthcare and extremely complex and are best made between the child's caretakers and their healthcare providers. Kentucky's trans children need love, support, and validation.
HB336 would explicitly prohibit healthcare providers from "performing surgeries or prescribing medications" for trans-affirming care for children.
House Bill 336 is clearly a solution in search of a non-existent problem that serves only to ostracize and shame trans children for being true to themselves. Healthcare professionals have robust standards to understand and meet the psychological and physical needs of trans children in manners appropriate for their physical and psychological development. HB336 will put the lives of Kentucky children at risk and prevent healthcare providers from upholding their oath to "do no harm."
