The death penalty is not justice, and the government should never have the authority to end a person's life, especially when that person is not able to fully understand the circumstances.

This legislation would ban the use of the death penalty against people who have a severe mental illness. The death penalty should be entirely abolished because the government should never have the authority to end a person's life. This legislation passed the House in 2021, making it further than in years past. It would be a step in the right direction, but this barbaric punishment must be abolished entirely.
