Juries need more discretion when sentencing people convicted of felony offenses.

We support legislation that would allow juries to recommend some felony charges be reduced to misdemeanors if the jury believes the sentencing is too harsh. Additionally, when sentencing a person who has been convicted of felony charges in the past, juries should be able to determine if the person should face a lengthier sentence. Currently, sentencing increases are automatically imposed for people considered to be "persistent felony offenders."
