This bill was a good step forward, but was sidelined by the novel coronavirus pandemic. We remain committed to this legislation and plan to advance it during the next legislative session.

Senate Bill 154 would ban the use of the death penalty against people who have severe mental illness. The death penalty should be entirely abolished because the government should never have the authority to end a person's life. This bill is a small step in the right direction.
