Senate Bill 245 would increase police accountability by allowing local governments to establish civilian review boards independent of police departments. SB245 was one of several police accountability proposals and we plan to continue promoting similar legislation next year.

SB245 would grant subpoena power to civilian review boards. This would allow for meaningful access to records and witnesses. Establishing independent review boards with subpoena power would help hold law enforcement accountable to the people they are sworn to protect and serve. SB245 would be a positive step forward in reimagining the role of police in public safety.
