Bio
Rabbi Ben Freed serves as the rabbi of Keneseth Israel Congregation in Louisville. His rabbinic work is guided by his commitment to engagement with Jews of all backgrounds, an innovative approach to Jewish learning and ritual, and bringing out the joy inherent to Jewish practice. He is passionate about sharing stories that deepen our connection to each other and our tradition.
Rabbi Freed was ordained at the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York where he also earned an M.A. in Jewish Thought. Prior to rabbinical school, Rabbi Freed earned degrees in journalism and Middle Eastern studies from the University of Texas and worked as a reporter, yoga instructor, Uber driver, and Bar Mitzvah DJ. During his time and training as a journalist Rabbi Freed developed a strong appreciation for the first amendment and is committed to protecting the civil liberties of all Kentuckians.
Rabbi Freed shares his home with his wife Ariane Barrie-Stern and their daughter Meirav. In his spare time he enjoys dancing (especially tap), sports, and exploring Louisville and the surrounding areas.
