Bio
Shanna Romanillos is a servant leader and passionate member of the community. Her commitment to service was cultivated from an early age, watching her grandmother volunteer in her community and give all that she could of both her time and money.
As an adult, Shanna’s admiration continues to grow, realizing her grandmother’s fortitude and the sacrifices she made caring for her large family in a low-income, minority-majority, and often violent neighborhood in West Dallas, Texas.
She has a unique perspective on life garnered through raising a medically dependent child, navigating the health system and unknowns of his diagnoses, and then eventually grieving his loss. This has enhanced her ability to empathize with others, especially when approaching significant challenges.
Her passions are rooted in defending the rights and freedoms of ALL, especially those within marginalized communities. Shanna knows firsthand the value of building relationships and connecting like-minded human beings to effect change.
As a new resident in rural Kentucky, Shanna is excited to meet and empower her fellow Kentuckians to join in the ACLU’s work of defending civil rights and freedoms. Outside of work, you can find her watching movies, supporting local restaurants and small businesses, and interacting with the chickens, hogs, sheep, and dogs on her small family farm.
