Abolition of the Death Penalty Press Conference

House Republican David Floyd & Senate Democrat Gerald Neal to Hold Press Conference with Family Members of Murder Victims

 

What:              Kentucky lawmakers who introduced legislation to repeal the death penalty are speaking at a press conference Wednesday.  Senator Gerald Neal (former supporter of the death penalty) and Representative David Floyd (first Republican since 1980 to introduce a repeal bill) will be joined by family members of Kentucky murder victims that oppose the death penalty.  The filing of House Bill 330 and Senate Bill 77 comes as the number of capital cases are trending downward nationally.  18 states do not have the death penalty, and 143 innocent people have been freed from death row.  There are currently 33 people on death row in Kentucky.
