Text Bank to Stop Classroom Censorship

January 5, 2022 @ 6:00 pm

The Kentucky General Assembly is in full swing. Help us reach out to Kentuckians asking them to urge lawmakers to oppose legislation that would censor students and teachers by banning discussions about our country's true history.

Registration is free but required here or at the button below. See all text banks and other volunteer opportunities on our events page here.

What is classroom censorship legislation?

Some extreme politicians are trying to censor teachers and students to whitewash history and erase marginalized people. There is a lot of good in America’s history, but there are also the ugly facts of slavery, white supremacy, sexism, homophobia, economic oppression, and more.

These proposals are part of a nationwide push by extreme politicians to create controversies around so-called culture war issues and distract people from their refusal to address historical inequities that persist today.

Teachers need more resources and students need access to counselors, after-school programming, and therapists. Lawmakers must vote no on classroom censorship and work on the real issues facing Kentucky's teachers and students.

How does text banking work?

Text banking is like phone banking, but you do not use your phone or phone number. We have an online platform that's free, easy to use, and is NOT connected to your phone or any personal information. You will need access to a computer or tablet to use the texting platform. We'll show you how to use it before starting the text bank.
