This bill was a good step forward, but was sidelined by the novel coronavirus pandemic. We remain committed to this legislation and plan to advance it during the next legislative session.

House Bill 22 would prohibit a person employed by a school district from using corporal physical discipline a child in a school. Corporal punishment in school is disporportionately used against Black kids. This measure would help reduce racial disparities in discipline and protect all children, no matter their skin color, from physical punishment at school.
