The Supreme Court ruled today that cities can punish unhoused people for sleeping in public, even if they have nowhere else to go. This decision goes against longstanding Supreme Court precedent that it is cruel and unusual to criminalize a person’s status.
The Supreme Court of the United States has decided to review the Sixth Circuit’s decision preventing transgender youth from receiving necessary medical care in Tennessee and Kentucky.
HB5, the “Safer Kentucky Act,” is emotion-based legislation, rather than the evidence-based legislation Kentucky deserves. Legislators and research organizations who presented data and asked hard questions were stonewalled at every step of development of this legislation.
