Reproductive Freedom Project: Digital Toolkit

The Reproductive Freedom Project lobbies the state legislature on reproductive freedom issues. We coordinate volunteer lobbyists, conduct text and phone banks, develop message points and strategy, and arrange testimony before committees in Frankfort, both during annual general assemblies and throughout the year.

RFP advocacy issue areas include:

  • restoring abortion access,
  • improving Black maternal and infant health,
  • increasing access to free-standing birthing centers,
  • expanding access to healthcare for pregnant people,
  • reducing racism in healthcare,
  • providing paid leave for all Kentuckians,

and other issues related to reproductive freedom in the commonwealth.

Menstrual Equity Toolkit

Lack of access to menstrual products can be a significant barrier for people across the United States. Menstrual equity is the relatively new phrase, and frame, for the U.S. policy agenda to address this issue.

This toolkit provides key arguments and materials for advancing menstrual equity. It includes sample legislative and policy language; talking points; responses to common arguments; a primer on the “tampon tax”; a template for a legislative letter; model op-eds and links to other articles; tips for managing social media and “viral moments”; a briefing paper on menstrual equity; and an interview with an on-the-ground advocate.

Prior to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, abortion access was absent in 99% of Kentucky counties, according to the Guttmacher Institute. Yet anti-choice extremists continue to restrict access to reproductive freedom.
Studies show that getting an abortion doesn’t increase a pregnant person’s chances for depression or other forms of mental illness, but denying access does.
More than half of Kentuckians oppose a total ban on abortion. According to an Emerson College Polling survey conducted in 2023, nearly 55 percent of Kentuckians don’t support blanket bans on abortion.
In 2022, Kentuckians roundly rejected a ballot measure that sought to permanently prohibit access to abortion. Over half of voters said “no” to the amendment at the ballot box.
