FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

The following statement can be attributed to ACLU of Kentucky Spokesperson Samuel Crankshaw:

“A Kentucky court of appeals judge this evening reversed a lower court order and will allow Attorney General Daniel Cameron to enforce the state’s trigger law and six-week ban. For the time being, abortion is illegal in Kentucky. We plan to appeal this order to the Kentucky Supreme Court on Tuesday, August 2.

Cameron previously appealed orders blocking enforcement of the state’s abortion bans and lost both times. We hope the Kentucky Supreme Court continues to see the importance of maintaining the nearly 50-year status quo that protected the right to legal abortion in the commonwealth as our lawsuit plays out in court.

Our client, EMW Women’s Surgical Center, will stop providing abortion care for the time being. Planned Parenthood, the state's only other clinic, has also stopped providing care. Patients who need abortion services in the meantime should visit abortionfinder.org or abortionfunds.org.

Kentuckians deserve better than extremist politicians who will risk your bodily autonomy to score cheap political points. No Kentuckian should ever be forced to remain pregnant against their will. Despite this setback, we will never stop fighting for your right to make the best decisions for yourself.”
