The following statement can be attributed to ACLU-KY Board of Directors Member Omar Salinas-Chacón regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling on DACA in DHS v. Regents of the University of California:
"The Supreme Court protected DACA, a victory immigrant youth fought decades for. Today’s ruling means immigrant youth and our families are protected from President Trump’s deportation force. This decision comes as millions are have taken to the streets to protest the continued murder of Black people at the hands of police. The Trump administration still has the authority to rescind DACA again and will likely do so as soon as possible, just more carefully with reasons in keeping with the Court’s ruling. The only way that Black people, Black immigrants, and the undocumented community can live freely, safely and joyfully, is when our federal government acts to permanently protect Dreamers and local and state governments divert funds from law enforcement agencies and instead invest in the resources that our communities need like health care and public education.”
