Lobby to Stop Classroom Censorship (Virtual)

January 27, 2022 @ 10:30 am 4:00 pm

Join us for virtual meetings with lawmakers to share your opposition to legislation that would censor students and teachers. Lawmakers are often influenced by talking to the people they represent.

The ACLU has been fighting government censorship since its inception, and many of these fights take place in the classroom. Censorship is the suppression of words, images, or ideas that are "offensive," and happens whenever people succeed in imposing their personal views on others.

What is a mini-lobby day?

Lobby days are free and anyone can participate.

Mini-lobby days are days when the ACLU-KY team hosts Kentuckians at the state Capitol or connects the two virtually. We believe the people most affected by a certain issue often have the best solutions. These days are great opportunities for Kentuckians from all corners of the commonwealth to share with lawmakers how their policy decisions affect the everyday lives of the people they represent. Virtual lobby days are a great chance for people who live far from Frankfort to get involved.

Our lobby days engage people on a range of issues, from experiences with the legal system, to pregnancy and abortion care, to immigration.

Virtual lobby days are not full-day events. You will be assigned a 30-minute meeting with a legislator at some point during the day. Details will be worked out to find a time that works for you once you register.
