From Consent Decree to Community Power

What began as a federal consent decree process is now a community-driven effort to ensure Louisville does not walk away from meaningful police reform.

After the U.S. Department of Justice found unconstitutional policing practices within LMPD, community organizations, advocates, and residents pushed for changes aimed at increasing accountability, transparency, and public trust.

While the federal government has stepped back from consent decree negotiations, Louisville still has the power to move reform forward locally through the Community Commitment ordinance. This campaign is about ensuring those reforms are protected, that community voices remain central, and that public safety works for everyone.
