Proposed legislation aims to shutter the commonwealth’s abortion clinics
A Kentucky Senate Committee sent anti-abortion measure SB212 to the full Senate for consideration. SB212 would add new, onerous regulations to Kentucky’s abortion clinics under the guise of women’s health and safety. If signed into law, the bill may cause Kentucky’s few abortion clinics to shutter their doors.
Derek Selznick, American Civil Liberties Union of Kentucky Reproductive Freedom Project Director, had this comment:
"SB212 is another attempt to shut down access to safe and legal abortions in the commonwealth. The American Medical Association and the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists say there is ‘simply no medical basis’ for the provisions of bills like SB212. Just yesterday the Supreme Court took up a case on a law similar to SB212, it is unfortunate this committee decided to move legislation forward that is already under question by our nation’s highest court.”
