With your support, the ACLU of Kentucky worked on around 30 bills this session. Sign our thank you card to key legislators that helped secure two major victories:
- Criminal Justice Reform: We won a real victory with the passage of HB 40, a bill that allows for the expungement of certain low-level felony convictions. This means that some people will have the opportunity to wipe-away a one-time mistake, opening up employment, housing, and educational opportunities that are often out of reach for returning citizens.
- LGBT Rights: This session marriage licensing took center-stage. We successfully stopped an attempt to create separate, gay and straight marriage license forms in the commonwealth.
Take a moment to thank your key legislators, including Senators West, McGarvey, Westerfield, President Stivers and Representative Owens, who worked across party lines to get these pieces of legislation to the governor's desk. We often ask you to send legislators emails asking them to take action or study an issue. It's just as important to thank legislators for the hard, important work they've done.
