Government Accountability and Transparency

The Commonwealth Voter Campaign is working to make sure Kentuckians have the accurate information they need to cast their ballots with confidence and make their voices heard. We’re mobilizing voters, volunteers, and communities across Kentucky to participate, encourage others to vote, and vote like their rights depend on it. Because the decisions made at the ballot box shape our rights, our communities, and the future of our democracy.

On behalf of the Kentucky Resources Council, the Kentucky Equal Justice Center, and the ACLU of Kentucky, attorneys from the ACLU of Kentucky and the national ACLU’s State Supreme Court Initiative filed an amicus brief asking the Court to strike down Senate Bill 126, a “change of venue” law.

The Louisville Metro Department of Corrections is in crisis. After 12 deaths in just 10 month, it shouldn’t just be newsworthy – it should shake us to our core. 

Public school dollars do not belong in private schools. Past legislation is currently blocked in court, but lawmakers would reduce funding by $25M annually, harm Kentucky students, and reduce transparency around how your tax dollars are spent. It also paves the way for school vouchers statewide.

The government should never stifle dissent or infringe on your right to protest.

State agencies and local officials must be accountable to the people.
